I bought the item thinking it was the actual book itself, so it was an accidental purchase actually...I was going to look into returning it but it would cost $4 to mail it and it only cost $10 so I'd only get $6 back and considering that I just purchased the genuine book and am waiting for it, I've already waited a few days for the book, I'm just going to keep the participants guide. I haven't read it yet , it looks like it'll be useful for small groups and devotionals though...may help with some sermons.I wasn't glad to find out that it follows along with a dvd that amazon doesn't sell with the purchase, but it does explain why it is so cheap. There's an ISBN on the back of the book for the cd but I don't understand if that can actually be of any help with the cd.N.T. Wright is an excellent scholar though so I don't entirely mind having anythin of his work in my possesion, i bought the participants guide because i saw it was $10 online and got excited about it's cheapt price without realizing it was'nt the entire book as well.But ah well ...

This would not even get two stars except that it included a video of the author leading the lessons. The original book speaks for itself quite well.

A favorite!

A brilliant book all the way through, filling in holes that I wasn't aware were in my eschatology. But what I really loved were his concluding comments about a missional eschatology.

Delves into an aspect of Christian belief that is often overlooked or misunderstood.

I started this book with a little trepidation about the subject matter. Fortunately, it is so well written and his presentation so compelling that I find myself with more hope now than ever before in my 62 years on earth, 55 of them as a believer. I rated this high because of his humble attitude about presenting his solid if not a little bit off the beaten track, views about where our hope as believers should truly lie. I participated in a discussion group with friends about the material in this book and loved our time together centered around lively discussions!

I am a fan of N.T. (Tom) Wright. This DVD is very well produced. He is very articulate and clear. Setting is appealing. Easy to follow. One of the best.

This book was for a class but it was difficult to read. I think the author has unique ideas on this subject

Not since Kim Addonizio’s Tell Me has a book of poems excited me as much as American Sonnets for My Past and Future Assassin. Like Addonizio’s book, American Sonnets. . . contains many poems that achieve Emily Dickinson’s definition of poetry. Kinetic, musical, brutally honest, and deeply human, many of the poems do knock off the top of one’s head. One of the wonderful attributes of this book is that at the beginning of each sonnet the reader has no idea where he/she will arrive, for each poem is a journey that Hayes takes the reader and himself on, perhaps not knowing where he himself will land at the end.The sonnets are full of surprises, whether they be self-examinations, discussions of some of Hayes’ heroes, or wonderful excoriations of the man who calls himself President. What Hayes accomplishes in fourteen lines in each poem is magnificent. I know—superlatives and hyperboles, which are rarely deserved. This book does deserve everything positive it will undoubtedly receive: it’s unique, individualistic, smart but not boring, delightful, stunning, hypnotic, snidely humorous—you name it—and made me want more. It’s nothing short of a masterpiece.

what i marvel most about the poems by terrance hayes, is, probably, the manic energy at which they are read, his ability to sustain prosody at all costs, and, most of all, his inexhaustible inventiveness.the back-cover remarks let us know that these poems were ‘(w)ritten during the first two hundred days of the Trump presidency…’ having read them, with attention to nuance, insinuation and suggestion, except for one poem, i found nothing to link these poems to the trump presidency, unless taken in consideration are the range of emotions hayes employs. but how are these any different from the uses of hip-hop idiom, invective, and the need to rise above stereotype by juggling in the air fear, anger and love used by young black poets say, over the last twenty years?if you are politically persuaded and your social consciousness is stirred, more power to you. but don’t do so at the price of overlooking hayes’ dazzling wordplay and skills as a poetic raconteur. on more than one occasion, he has mentioned the work of wanda coleman, a poet who seemed to have a treasure trove of words, not big words, but every day words, words never recycled again and again, a rarity for poets. for poets, repetition is a staple. you can sense a newness in the way hayes works, how within the confines of poetic form, he makes several forms of his own making. using seventy sonnets, slyly giving the same name to each sonnet, listed in the index by the first line, he divides them in five groups of fourteen poems, keep in mind there are fourteen lines in a sonnet to appreciate the symmetry fitting to the tradition of american poet, donald hall, his baseball poems constructed on a series of nine to conform with the innings of a game.within his form, hayes has his own game with poetics. followers of surrealism may want to read the five grouped first lines in the index as five bonus poems. in each of the five groups one line is repeated ‘but there never was a black male hysteria.’ or consider the eponymous title with the word ‘past’ read as a noun as a way of situating the poet’s past as the poet’s traditional past:The black poet would love to say his century beganWith Hughes or God forbid, Wheatley, but actuallyIt began with all the poetry weirdos & worriers, warriors,Poetry whiners & winos falling from ship bows, sunsetBridges and windows.and: Orpheus was alone when he invented writing.His manic drawing became a kind of writing when he sentHis beloved a sketch of an eye with an X struck through it.He meant I am blind without you. She thought he meantI never want to see you again. It is possible he meant that, too.as for his future assassin, i leave that person or thing, as i leave what political sludge can be dredged from his poems, to other readers.suffice it to say, i enjoy the poems of his twin past, whether chasing with him all those literary whalers in:I thought we might as well sing the fables of the seaor the depth of feeling of the boy explored in:One of the most amazing things about me isI know how to cut my own hair. I learned how to do itAfter my father moved away.contained in these american sonnets. mr hayes is heading a reformation in american poetry.

Wow! This was my first time purchasing and reading sonnets for fun instead of as a literary assignment. This book was easy to devour. I really appreciated the tones and expressions from the author. Not everyday I see African American colloquialisms embedded into complex sonnets.I read a couple passages to my husband, who is not a reader, and even he wants to read this book. Bravo!

I'm a huge fan of Wind in a Box and Lighthead, in particular, but have been amazed by all of Hayes' books, until now. These feel rambling and undistinguished from each other and lack the tension and fire and insight one finds in his other books. These also feel way more self-conscious.

Great read, dense, slippery, challenging. Hayes does it again. I predict a Pulitzer. If you have me Dr read Hayes before, it is a great start.

To have a form and a lens through which to look at the history of the U.S., of poetry, of African American choking down the iambic pentameter is a gift Hayes brings to us.

Tons of amazing sonnets that are a fresh and contemporary twist on an old style! Recommend it for English teachers currently teaching their Invisible Man units.

I just received this book, and it seems very nice. My biggest complaint is that the version of "God Help the Outcasts" is not what you hear in the movie (The Hunchback of Notre Dame). I was very disappointed by this, seeing as that may have been the song I was most excited about... :( Anyway, I am really pleased with the rest of the songs though, and I am excited to work on them! I would have given this book five stars if it wasn't for the altered version of "God Help the Outcasts". However, if that song doesn't matter to you, I highly suggest this book.

BEWARE! The first time I ordered this book, by description, I thought I was getting the CD also. Well, just the book came. I talked to an Amazon agent and he confirmed that by description, he thought I should have received the CD also. He processed an RA and I under his direction I proceeded to order another book and CD, so we thought. A few days later I received another book and no CD. Again, I called Amazon and told the agent that I now had 2 books and no CD. Before I could express my dissatisfaction, she was apologizing up and down and told me that I should order a CD and she would refund both book purchases, not process an RA for the second book, and cancel the RA for the first book I received, and give me a $20.00 dollar credit on my account on top of it all. I was so shocked!! I couldn't believe what I just heard. She said that Amazon wants to keep its customers loyal and happy while maintaining their high customer satisfaction rating. Both agents that I spoke with very polite, courteous, etc. In the end I got 2 books, a CD, and a $20.00 credit on my account just as she said I would. I'm still surprised at the end result. Even though it took a little effort to get the correct items to me, Amazon exemplified customer service to the highest degree. Keep up the good work Amazon, I'm a HAPPY Customer! On another note, my daughter's voice professor recommended this book and my daughter loves it!

Great book of basic songs every singer should have their repertoire.

Was under the impression the CD would be with it. Maybe my misunderstanding, but if it is not supposed to include it please update the description to state that the CD is NOT INCLUDED. This is the same book my daughter uses in her voice lessons and she is happy about it, so now to find the audio.

This is my go-to beginner book for teens in MT. Some of the songs are pitches lower than the original keys but not so low as to be unsingable. Good selection of songs.

Excellent collection of musical theatre songs in a medium range for young teens.

I'm another who thought a CD came with this book. I am very disappointed.

I've heard about this book for a few years now, and finally bought the kindle edition. JJ is VERY honest and pulls no punches, while not showing any malice.He covers everything from his beginnings as a ref in the old WWWF, to his first full time job as a worker in Crockett. I loved the stories and his time in the Amarillo territory, and also his time with Eddie Graham in Florida. I would have loved to see the show from the Maritimes, sounds very cool.If you are a fan of the 4 Horseman, he covers that pretty good as well. His time in WWF is also covered, and you can see how Vince McMahon is very selfish and self centered. He basically bankrupted JJ, which sucks.He also goes into how Eric Bischoff bankrupted Turner, and never used JJ's mind to get insight on what could be done to topple the WWF at the time. Also he took the heat from a LOT of the talent for things that he either had NO control over, or that other people precipitated, that has nothing to do with him. He seems like a man of integrity, and never fired a talent by Fed X, but always had a conversation with them, as it should be.I ordered the Kindle version, because the book itself is a few hundred dollars at this time it seems.Now, if they would just release Gary Hart's book, I could die a happy man!!!!!

Mr. Dillon is As loquacious in print as he ever was in the ring. The book is filled with interesting anecdotes from a bygone era and provides a peek behind a storied decades long career. The only negative about the book I have to share is that it could have used a bit more editing. At their endings the chapters of his stories lapse into repetition and ocasionally his narrative suffers from jumps in chronology. In sum: A fun read if you have an interest, even if it could stand a little polish.

I have read other biographies that other wrestlers have written, but JJ Dillon's book is the best because you get both his perspective as a wrestler/performer and his perspective as an businessman/executive at WWF and WCW. I have watched a few shoot interviews and JJ's are the best and most insightful and his book was no different. Today's WWE doesn't even want to call it 'Professional Wrestling.' They call it 'Sports Entertainment.' I prefer the 'Pro Wrestling' era. Today's product doesn't interest me the way it did during JJ's era. Most of today's stars will be forgotten, but people like JJ Dillon and The Horsemen will not. I mean no disrespect to today's performers. There are still independent circuit wrestlers who have to wait for their break and there are those trained by WWE's NXT. I am sure everyone pays dues, but not to the same degree. In JJ's day, you had to have total devotion to the sport. There were no big payouts and you wrestled where you could. This book is like a history of wrestling. JJ gives the perspective of what it took to get into and succeed in in pro wrestling. He also gives a very unique comparison of McMahon's style of management versus Bischoff's. I think JJ is quite candid and sincere about the things he says. He is fair in that he gives you both the good and the bad about those he discusses and he admits things about himself that aren't pleasant. This is truly a unique individual who has come full circle and seems to have found peace. I have nothing but appreciation and respect for him and those like him who love pro wrestling with a passion and are willing to sacrifice for the good of the business.

I wanted to know the story, his story; and now I feel I have. the beginning of the book shows a youthful enthusiasm, an almost Forrest Gump journey through the territory era. Alas, the picture stays too much in focus. A man who was given chances to book areas, only to have them fail do to circumstances beyond his control. While referring to Dusty Rhoades "ego" JJ goes,n,about no one being able to time a PPV. Claiming that Vince Jr. would never bring somebody needs in to fail, then claim that he wouldn't work again for wwe, because he would never know when Vince would set him,up. still and all, I appreciated the effort. thank you!

I really enjoyed this book. It was very detailed about every point in his career. It was interesting as he relived his days in the territory circuits. I loved how he went into details about his days in WCW & WWE. It gave alot of insight into his duties as a booker and working in creative. I've never read a book that went into so much detail about what it was like to work for Vince McMahon. Very interesting. In fact, Dillon was there during one of my favorite eras (1980s NWA/WCW), WWE, and also during WCW's downfall with Eric Bischoff. Great stories from the road throughout the book.What a great wrestling creative mind. What a book about professional wrestling should be! Must read for the wrestling fan. loved it!

I rate this up there with the Ole Anderson and Jack Brisco books for his candor and honesty as one of the best. I have read Foley Jericho Flair Regal Brody Dynamite Kid Superstar Graham Bischoff one of Russo's and many I forgot that I read etc Good read even if you are not a fan, great story teller

anyone, who loves to dream of cutting down on things, traveling to new destinations or living without all of the stuff that seems to weigh us all down, will love this book. It is beautiful and the pictures are clear, the script easy to ready and it would be difficult not to spend hours dreaming of how you could plan and build a tiny house and be so very comfortable....

Pretty good book and I like it a lot that the author included his own experience of living in an RV to building his dream home. The book spends a great deal of time trying to convince people that spacious living is bad and that you ought to feel guilty for having enough money to live American style. I think the volume would be more well served to focus on building practices, sustainable ideas for the construction of smaller homes and how to help affect the movement to actually owning something of your own that you don't have to spend 30 years paying for. Some of the questions I had were answered by the volume, like how to construct the units and how to begin trying to find a place to park it. Over all a good read and worth the price... I would enjoy having a website devoted to the THM (Tiny House Movement) where local people, by State, can help each other make the transition and not fall into pits of legal trouble. If your interested in simplistic living, BUY IT!

I enjoyed reading The Small House Book by Jay Shafer. He has such good ideas and perspective in living in a tiny house. Reading about his first tiny house was an eye opener and really gave me pause for thought. Fortunately he had the foresight to continue his life in tiny houses which brought tiny house lifestyle to the public eye and began a great movement which I feel will be going on for a long time if not forever. Thanks Jay!

A nice little book showing nice colored photos of different outside designs for small homes, showing floor layouts, and providing information the author has experienced in his building of many of these homes. Great idea generator mainly for homes the size that can be driven on a trailer down roads and plunked down here and there. Novel ideas. Gave me some clues as to what I might want in a small house, what size I may want, and what layout. Food for thought.

A wonderful primer for those exploring smaller housing. Jay locates the small house movement in the wider US culture, explaining environmental, practical and beauty considerations of small housing. Lots of beautiful pics of exteriors, and some of interiors. Some great ideas, like sleeping lofts (storybook nooks! Clothes would need separate storage) . A lovely spread of ideas, including how to carefully fit your house to your life. Not a detailed how-to, more a philosophical and inspirational book. Everyone interested in more financial freedom and a unique interior layout in minimal space would enjoy this book, whether looking for a house on wheels or on a foundation. I would have preferred less of why big houses don't work, and more of how to design tiny ones that do, but I'm still expecting this to be a book I show to many people, and I will use some of the specific design ideas, like 90 degree gable roofing, a front porch, and open cathedral ceilings in some areas. It even makes me wonder if I could make my own doors... I am grateful to have been able to access an electronic version of this extraordinary book, so easily.
