I'm not a nosy person, and don't care to read about their lives.This book, however, I had to have! I'm a huge animal lover, a fan of Pit Bulls and Parolees, and this book, while having some personal info in it, is more about the dogs that mattered the most- a handful of them, anyway. THAT was the kind of nonfiction I could get behind, so I ordered an autographed copy of the book, preordered the Kindle version, and waited eagerly for midnight for the book to show up on my device.I devoured it in 2 sittings, only because sleep was necessary. If you love the show, you've seen Monster and Blueie. You watched the rescue of Lucky the "ghost dog". You saw pictures of Mariah's beautiful dog, L.A. Your heart hurts watching the show and you cry with each loss. Now you can read more about these special dogs that touched your heart from Tia Torres's perspective. I chuckled, I was excited to read more, I cried several times, and I was truly sorry to reach the end of the book.Ms. Torres, you've said you enjoy writing. I hope you will publish another with some more amazing dog stories. I'd love to read more about some other favorites, like Rhino, how Jasper became yours, the story of Jack (since you talked of the beautiful Monster in this book), and any other truly amazing dogs who've touched your heart the way they've touched mine. This book was amazing, well written, included only one typo to my eye ("lung" instead of "lunge") and I'll definitely be looking for more books to read in between bingeing the show.

My heartfelt thanks too you, your family and your rescue that comes into our homes year after year. It is always a learning experience watching a!I of you with unconditional love for all the underdogs. I have a chronic/terminal illness. I have been very sick for yrs. I thank you for your tenacity and courage and above all your love of your dogs/animals. I for one will NEVER forget this amazing journey you have taken me on. Started reading this at noon today and couldn't put it down till I was finished reading it. 5 hours later, and in awe of this amazing lady. I've been watching the show since it aired and have cried during many episodes. Reading this book made me laugh and cry so many times. Tia is such a down to earth lady and will do anything for her kids, 2 legged and 4. Remembering all the dogs mentioned in this book brought back memories of each dog as they were in the show. Bluie and Tania's story, both in the show and again in the book had me crying like a baby. Keep up the amazing job you do and God Bless you and your family. Truly an amazing animal loving family🐕🐕

This book is a must read for anyone who loves animals and especially those working in various rescue groups. It is heartwarming and tear producing, and you will be inspired in the reading of Tia's stories. The only recommendation is that she write another one or 10 as we would love to read more stories of her life with her dog and human family. I highly recommend this book because you will not be bored as her writing is spot-on, and your spirit will be uplifted hearing about her life and her hardships along the way. Her main theme in her book and her life is never let life get you down where you feel helpless. Fall down, get up and do it all again and again until you get it right. Thank You Tia Torres for being such a shining example for us all.

I am a regular watcher of the program (though mostly in reruns). Tia and her family and parolee workers are always entertaining. And you can't help but grasp the love that they have for the dogs. But this was special ... in that it delves into the back stories of dogs that have been pivotal in Tie's live and the lives of her children. The extra benefit is that she is a really good writer ... something that many who sell books can't honestly say! I'd be surprised if you didn't find yourself belly-laughing at one scene and weeping at another. Which is at the heart of every relationship we have with our dogs. Such an amazing science experiment book! Love how simple the activities are, yet they still are great for teaching science concepts. My kids love picking out activities from this book!

I have been using this book for summer time learning activities. The activities and experiments are really great - from easy to hard, very little prep and quick to more involved, and they cover so many different areas. I really like the sections that give prompts for questions to ask the kids before the experiment and after, along with really easy-to-understand explanations of the science behind what happened.

Science should be hands on and exciting. This book makes it both. The experiments aren't just for fun, they teach scientific principles. This book makes scientists out of both teacher and student.

Used as a summer filler for my STEM school going 7 year old. I absolutely loved how most if not all experiments required not having to pick up pricey or odd materials that I wouldn't have on hand. We did one once a week and I really liked reading the "why" about explanations. A rare find and I would recommend it as a birthday gift!

May want to avoid if you live in California. Many of the experiments require straws.

The experiments in this book are fun and most of them use things you probably already have around the house. The photos are beautiful and the book is very well made!

Great book for new scientists. Bought it for my 4 year old granddaughter during my recent visit. She loved our experiment time each day. It was easy to find experiments to do with the supplies we already had. She especially liked the cornstarch and water experiment.

The best children’s science book I have ever seen! As an aunt - I loved seeing how engaged and excited my nephews were when doing these experiments. Needed this for school cause we didnt get a nursing diagnosis book. All our teacher love ackley and i have always loved anything by mosby. The 5th ed is a smaller version of the 11th ed which is more expensive. My classmates got the bigger one but i wanted something more compact if i wanted to bring it to clinical. Will see if i suffer or not for it.

Mixed feelings. I love the book BUT I recently realized it's missing pages. You could never tell from the binding but it has almost 50 pages missing total in a few different places. Really makes the book worthless as a reference manual to carry.

This is a fantastic book about Wyoming's range wars and the 'invasion' of the early 1890s. Written only a couple of years after the events happened, A S Mercer's account is very brave indeed. He calls it as he sees it, and puts the blame fairly and squarely on those responsible. No wonder certain individuals and organisations tried their best to stop this book being published. They even tried burning all known copies. We are lucky they didn't succeed, and this book is extremely valuable to history. When I visited the USA in 2011, my wife and I drove into Kaycee, Wyoming, and across the street the sign above the local bar reads 'INVASION BAR'. ..... the people of Wyoming don't forget these happenings, and you will get a factual and accurate account of the unlawful acts of the Texas and other gunmen who were hired by the powerful forces of 'big cattle' in the 1890s. A must for all fans of western history. A great read.

There are books which can hover at the edge of your consciousness for many years until you finally get around to reading them. You know what I mean-- a book that you keep hearing about in one way or another from other people and it doesn't rise to the top of your to-buy list until there's a kind of critical mass and you just have to pick it up? Or am I the only person who has that happen?Anyhow, the first time that I heard about the Mercer book was probably in graduate school when I was studying Shane. At that time I didn't read it, and mostly forgot about it. Some years later, I read Nature's Metropolis and I think that it came up again in the bibliography. I made a note of it, added it to one of my voluminous and frankly-impossible-to-read-them-all-before-I-die wish lists. And then I forgot about it again. Finally and most recently, the War on Powder River was discussed in an article that I happened to be reading and again The Banditti of the Plains came up in the text. Somehow that struck me in just the right way, so I finally went ahead and bought the book.First off, let me say that the history of this book may be more interesting than the book itself. The University of Oklahoma Press edition begins with a letter written to the Princeton University Library in 1923, warning that the book should be safeguarded as it was prone to being stolen and mutilated. It goes on to say that the book was supressed in 1894 by a court in Wyoming, and all copies were supposed to have been burned. One wagon full of books made it across the state line into Colorado at night, and were accordingly saved.The foreword by William Kittrell then goes on to tell the reader that the publication of this book resulted in Mercer's career effectively being ruined, businesses being closed, printers going to jail.So what's in the book? Well, in pretty much every review or description of The Banditti of the Plains someone is sooner or later going to use a sentence that reads something like: "this is not an objective description of the history of the Johnson County War". Mercer was a very angry man, who made a lot of very angry accusations against men and families with a whole lot of power. He wrote the book at age 55 as a then well-known publisher.The background of the book is the tension between large wealthy cattle ranchers and the smaller settlers who lived in their shadow. In 1892, the Wyoming Stock Growers Association (WSGA) hired a small army of hired killers to wipe out many of these small farms in response to what the WSGA saw as a pervasive problem of cattle rustling. The Banditti of the Plains is a first-hand account of what happened next.Particularly if you're interested in the subject, it is a very interesting book. The accounts of the killings of Ella Watson and Nate Champion were powerful reading. And I kind of have to say that the lesson is worth bearing in mind when considering the way that modern large companies try to preemptively prevent loss of income by attacking people whose way of life they say as conducive to modern day rustling. The basic story is not really as far in the past as we might think.Recommended.

This book illustrates how special interests influenced our government, both State and Federal to participate in the murder of innocent farmers and townspeople who were falsely accused of cattle rustling in Wyoming when it was actually the special interests who were pillaging and murdering the same people they were accusing. If it happened once in our country, it could happen again and we should take note.

It is a very dry history of a period a long time ago. I got because it was written by my grandmother's Uncle.

Interesting book about big cattle ranchers in Wyoming in the late 1800's and crimes they committed against the other settlers. Spelling, punctuation and the writing in this book is not the best.

Great read. Should be required reading in all schools. Sets history straight.

Gave as a gift to my "wild west" history buff dad. He seemed to enjoy this book.

I have loved all of the "For Dummies" books because they are elementary enough for the average mind to understand but still have content that is mentally stimulating and educational. Unfortunately, this book was written too basic and it is mainly just very vague reviews of general laws or common sense topics. It is something that a young teen or middle school student would read to get a general idea of how the real world works but that's about it. I am finishing my undergrad and was considering law school so I thought this book would provide some insight but I ended up very being very disappointed. I won't go through the hassle of returning it since it was so inexpensive but I regret purchasing it.

The book "Law for dummies", is a good cursory overview of legal practices. It provides various details and definitions, terms. It's an enjoyable read.

The author gave a great overview of American Law for a complete novice like myself. Some aspects of law are dated (like gay marriage for example...this is before the Supreme Court ruling). However, many everyday legal matters that we may or may not encounter are communicated in lucid detail for a person to prepare adequately for them.

I didn't notice this was published in 2005. Although it does contain some good information, it is pretty outdated. Most contact info is for postal mail. Probably the most important thing I learned was to check publication dates for reference books like this.

It's a basic book with good information. Quick and easy to read which is an entrance to law studies which entail more learning.

This product is perfect for non attorneys. Topics are easy to find and easy to understand.
