I always learn something valuable from Seth Godin and am a huge fan. This book is another classic of straight-forward, no-nonsense, practical marketing advice and insights from a master. It's also full of Godin's quirky humor, which helps to soften the blow of finding out some of those cherished beliefs are unfortunately pure nonsense.

I'm almost halfway through the book but I can't read it anymore b/c his writing style makes it hard to comprehend the ideas as you're reading.The books starts out with a few main points: different people share a "worldview"- find a common worldview and figure out how to reach that group (and sell to them) by telling them a "story". The "story" consists of lies that people who share that worldview tell themselves to feel comfortable in the world. For instance - "food products labeled as organic help me live longer"... Its not necessarily a lie but its a view shared by many people who value their longevity (a shared worldview)... And that group of people will believe it whether or not organic-labelled food will actually help them live longer.I've simplified his main idea, I think, and I didn't do it very well... that IS his main idea though. Its simple... pretty brilliant. However, the first 30 pages in the book tells it all, I believe. I don't think its necessary to read the rest... about halfway through the book, I'm finding some repetition of the main ideas...Additionally, I'm having trouble getting through the rest of his book b/c of his writing style... its somewhat "conversational". He writes as if he is talking to a live audience. Which is fine... if you hear a speech, it is easy to follow the speakers line of though because lack of phrases and complete sentences are compensated by tone of voice and voice pitch. Its okay to be grammatically informal if you're talking aloud to someone else - rises and falls in the voice, emotion, even facial expression, help you follow the ideas. But on paper, I'm finding this way of writing hard to follow. His ideas are already somewhat complex and need a lot of explanation... so the writing style makes it harder to understand...Reading this book is exhausting. I don't look forward to reading the rest.

Figure out some internally approved story that you can trot out to the sales force and use in a magazine ad, and you're set.Actually, if you do that, you're dead..."I am always baffled how many stories which are trying to sell an expensive program begin with the story of some character, who is completely broke and has also maxed out his credit cards, but THEN borrows money to buy this program and ends up being a millionaire twelve months later. Ha!Godin offers hundreds of interesting example, each one with valuable information whether you work in the particular industry or buy these products, or not. Marketing today is an ever more rapidly evolving process, and good marketing people learn cross industries. Even Steve Jobs learned from Nike.Finally, Godin hones down on what every consumer should think about before swiping the card: "The lie a consumer tells himself is the nucleus in the center of any successful marketing effort."This book is highly recommended. This was a quick and insightful read! In typical Godin writing style, he explains through example and storytelling how the business situations of today are asking not for commoditization and efficiency, but depth and personalization. Customers need a story to tell themselves in order to spend more on a product that is likely available cheaper somewhere else. Although I agree with many critiques noting that Godin's ideas may not be new in the business world, his delivery provides a much richer experience in learning about them than any textbook or MBA course likely would.If you have a background in business, it likely that you will find this less than exemplary in relevant information. If you are new to business and marketing, this is a great way to introduce and start thinking around the topics in creative ways.

After reading many marketing books and teaching the subject, I would recommend this book to non-marketers who want to understand a framework for marketing. This book is pretty much written in a way that the book actually talks about. And that is consumers understand things in the worldview in which they reside. This book communicates that message to a person whose worldview is outside of marketing. For a person who teaches the subject, I have found some use to communicate it to my students as a bases for marketing, but as far as in-depth marketing treasures, this book comes up a little flat. I always look for examples to share with my students, and I really didn't find anything in this book that isn't already covered by other authors. Seth Godin does write well and builds an incredible case for transparency, but he talks of a subject that is more common sense than enriching.

This book was such a relief to read. As a former second generation fundamentalist christian, I have had a lot of grief over whether or not I made the right decision in walking away. There were just so many things about the sect that I couldn't seem to wrap my mind around and reading this book was like reading something I wrote. So many things were wrapped up in my mind and Mark really had a way of saying everything I didn't know I was thinking. Incredibly refreshing to know I'm not alone.

Letters from the Earth came close to never being published - so controversial were Twain's views on the negative aspects of organized religions. His daughter Clara, executor of her father's estate, refused to allow the manuscript to see the light of day, thinking she was protecting Twain's reputation. Fortunately, she was finally persuaded, 50 year's after Twain's death, to change her mind after a family friend convinced her that "Mark Twain belonged to the world" and that by the 1960's the public's opinions about religion were changing. It was only then that the 1939 manuscript edited by Bernard DeVoto was made available to the world.Letters from the Earth confirms Twain's world-class status as an acute and objective observer of the human condition - particularly for the hypocritical aspects of institutional religions whose goals Twain saw were to control mankind, not serve it. Letters from the Earth should be required reading for every high school-er (and adult who hasn't yet read it); I can think of no better text to stimulate critical thinking about religion in both its beneficial and self-serving aspects - especially in this era when Christianity has been conflated by some with greedy Capitalism. Twain himself described his writing in this work as "sarcastic" - but it was sarcasm with well-deserved purpose. One of my favorite quotes (and there are many) describes the Creator's view of his own handiwork: "He took a pride in man; man was his finest invention; man was his pet, after the housefly . . . ."

This "Letters from the Earth" is only "Letters from the Earth" itself. Let me explain: The full volume titled "Letters from the Earth" is [was?] a full-sized book containing not only "Letters from the Earth" itself -- which is, itself, absolutely marvellous and will never be forgotten by anyone who reads it -- but also a number of other small masterpieces by Twain, all discovered posthumously and edited and published by one Bernard DeVoto. THAT's what I thought I was buying [my own old copy has disappeared]. What a disappointment. So I'm sending this on as a gift for someone, and trying once again to find the real thing. And THIS thing doesn't even have page numbers!

A favorite gift of mine to my friends. The book should be re read with an open mind. After all it is just Lucifer writing letters back to Gabriel in Heaven telling him how screwed up the world we live in has become, and what he thinks of humans.

This Kindle version was bought as a gift; the actual book has been in my library for decades and is among the rare volumes that get re-read. Here Twain makes mince of sacred cows in a fashion I'd be tempted to call inimitable if it weren't for Terry Pratchett, whose "Small Gods" carries on in the same spirit. Much of the material in these Twain essays is true laugh-long-and-loud stuff. His send-ups of elaborate Victorian etiquette spring first to mind, including such instructions as how to preserve proper decorum while saving someone from a fire. Much as I love "Huck" (especially the Stephen Dowling Butts riff), I'd pick this volume in a heartbeat, if I could have only one work by Mark Twain. If you haven't read it yet, you're in luck; enjoy yourself!

I am a long time fan of Mark Twain. This was actually a re-read of the book which I originally read decades ago. There have been few of the level of wit and wisdom as e. I highly recommend this book to anyone with an open mind.

This book was not believable. It was annoying how the main character was always fighting football player size men or a huge woman. I don't mind strong women but this was too silly. I couldn't read it but skipped ahead to the end only to find out it didn't end but continues in a series. I won't be ready anymore books by this author. It started out like it could have been a good story but was so unbelievable.

Overwrought writing, like a bodice ripper on steroids. The sex/love scenes were Harlequin Romance extravaganzas gone over the top of purple prose and juvenile True Romance. There is no way I can recommend this to anyone.

This book was more about physical attraction and sex between the obligatory opposites than it was about mystery and detective work. I was disappointed.

Whole story line was stupid! I was sick of hearing about her black curly hair, his sexy grin, that damn piece of hair falling onto his forehead, over and over, throughout the book! Was not hard to figure out who the killer was. Will NOT be reading any more books in this series.

I feel like the author was attempting to giver the novel a "modern feel," but the main character was just too much: too bawdy, too crass, too one-dimensional and not at all likeable. I didn't enjoy the book because I couldn't stand Miranda.

Probably the worst book I have ever tried to read. Written at a fifth grade level, predictable plot, overuse of adjectives, use of word sexy every other page, and in general very easy to put down. I only continued to read it because I kept thinking it couldn't get any worse, but it continued to do so. Don't waste your time on this book.

Well written, fast paced story, though wondering if time frames are a little skewed ro make the story work ? Female lead characteristics a little unbelievable...AND....another author who thinks if you don't add a litle graphic sex, no-one is going to read the story.

Matt Fraction creates an Invincible Iron Man. This 'Omnibus' contains the first 19 comics/volumes 1-3 of the books. I've read a handful of other Iron Man stories, but I think I enjoyed this most of all. This book contains three stories. The first story is about Tony Stark and his function as Iron Man and the director S.H.I.E.L.D.. A low-yield nuclear bomb goes off in Africa, only come to find evidence the bomb was made by stark industries. Tony takes on his nightmares by fighting a stronger, faster, and more advanced Ezekial Stane. The outcome of all evil also changes the life of Pepper Potts forever! The rest of the book contains The Worlds Most Wanted series, parts 1&2. After the Skrull invasion, Tony finds himself literally picking up the pieces of what used to be Stark Industries. After being cast out of S.H.I.E.L.D., Tony is now a fugitive, being hunted down by Norman Osborn, Commander of H.A.M.M.E.R.. Tony knows what information Osborn wants. Although the only place this information exists is in a secret stark file which is being delivered to Captain America by Black Widow, and the rest is steadily being erased from the back of Tony's mind, personally! Thankfully both Tony and Iron Man have friends in high places! This series is near perfection, in both aspects of storyline and illustration. A great buy and plan to continue the series with the second 'omnibus'. I give Invincible Iron Man 4.8/5 stars.

The timing was good for this release, and they were able to secure a great creative team for the book in the trio of writer Matt Fraction, Spanish comic artist Salvador Larroca, and colorist Frank D'Armata . At the time the original series debuted, I was already familiar with all of these creative talents. I had been reading Fraction's work in the The Immortal Iron Fist, Vol. 1: The Last Iron Fist Story series, had the pleasure of viewing Frank's outstanding coloring work in Annihilation: Conquest Book 1 (Bk. 1), and had fond memories of Larocca's great artwork during his tenure illustrating the X-Treme X-Men, Vol. 1: Destiny (Xtreme) series. Thus, I had a lot of faith that this series would turn out to be worth my while and above average. Happily, I was correct about this.(Spoilers Ahead!)At the outset of the series, Tony finds himself on the run from an unlikely group - namely the S.H.I.E.L.D. organization that he used to run. At the end of Secret Invasion, Norman Osborn appears to the world as a hero and is given the authority to take over S.H.I.E.L.D., which he re-names H.A.M.M.E.R. Eager to take full advantage of this group and its enormous resources of both military firepower and classified information, Norman has clear plans for Tony Stark, who he labels as a traitor and a failure. Knowing Norman's intentions for him, Tony sets in motion a plan to deny Norman access to both classified information that could endanger his friends and access to his Iron Man suits.As Tony races across the planet, one step ahead of Norman Osborn and his henchmen, he attempts to destroy all of his Iron Man suits in all of his secret bases. Instead, it has been packaged in a blood-red hardcover with gold lettering. It's a small, but very welcome detail that adds more value to this book. While I enjoyed the first Iron Man movie, it wasn't enough to make me go and pick up the comics. A friend gave me a few issues after I read Extremis (I love Warren Ellis' work) I found Fraction's run to be a damn good story. Keep in mind though, I haven't been following Iron Man, nor really cared about him as a character in a long time. I used to watch the Marvel Cartoon Hour as a kid, and I enjoyed Stark as the sometimes leader of the Avengers during Busick's run back in the late 90s.The biggest thing I liked about the first arc was that it didn't require you to know the in depth history of Tony Stark. While I had some inklings it gave you enough hints and flat out said/reminded you of the parts you did need to know. The other part is that it was it's own book. In a industry where the majority of the big name titles are involved in "Summer Crossover XII" and your favorite comics are interrupted to take part in the mindless crap that the majority of the crossovers are, this one did not directly get involved in those.Instead we're treated to Stark dealing with not just another tech/gimmicky enemy, but someone who's created a new type of Iron Man based tech, and gone beyond the typical suit of armor. I found this very interesting, especially the way they explain all the little psuedo-scientific ways it breaks down and works. Another nice little benchmark in this comic is there is actual drama and tension and you feel for these characters. The idea of Tony dealing with his fears and seemingly actually weighing him down is great to read. Again, I'm new to Iron Man, so if someone has done it better than Fraction, good for them, but I'm just reviewing the book I did read.The second arc does deal with the 'summer crisis crossover infinity' bit, but it does it in a smooth transitioned way. The character isn't simply thrown at aliens or other heroes in a mindless conflict. He's dealing with losing his mind, literally. There is a bit more of a focus on Pepper Potts and her being a heroine, and Maria Hill being a badass field agent fighting against an entire agency sent to capture her. The change in dynamic between the 3 people being heroes and comfortable to fugitives almost constantly on the run is a fun transition to watch and read as well.Tony Stark still comes off as a smarmy know it all playboy who wants to do good for the world, even if the world doesn't want to be good. The cast of characters are a group you care about and want to know what happens next. It's a comic book hero so you know things are going to turn out alright (for the most part) but how you get to 'alright' is a damn good trip.

These protests, though peaceful to begin with, became violent when the Syrian military killed peaceful protesters began using tear gas, and then bullets, to deter protesters. As an all out war broke out in Syria, many became refugees.This is the story of one such family. As you read, you learn what a typical Syrian family is like--an insight into the family organization and values.Their journey to Egypt is one of the earlier ones and is in stark contrast to those that came later. Reading about Doaa and her fiancé and their desire to build a better future is a story we can all connect with--and the lengths they go to to get there are lengths many of us would go to as well. To be free, to leave a war torn country behind, to find work and make a good and honest living, to support an extended family....these are honorable dreams.What happens next is horrific and no one deserves the massacre that follows. I finished this book after reading several they books (mostly focusing on refugee camps) and am now, more than ever, moved to do more for refugees in my country and abroad. My heart goes out to Doaa and millions like her. I am thankful for this book and the way it was written--a story told to open hearts and minds.

Reading Melissa Fleming’s book about the challenges Doaa faced in fleeing violence in Syria comes at an interesting time with Trump blocking immigration for Syrian refugees after they go through a 2 year screening to eliminate potential terrorists. (Doaa’s story is not about getting into the USA, but a safe passage to Europe). Naturally we have all heard about the plight of the Syrians, but only after you take the time to understand what Assad has done to his people do you get the full understanding of why Assad needs to be taken out, or face crimes against humanity. And to think that he was educate in the UK! My hope is that by reading Doaa’s account, Americans will have a greater degree of compassion for immigrants from war torn countries, or those ruled by despots. For the record, I am an immigrant having arrived in the US 30 years ago. I understand the challenge of settling into a new society, even though my home language is English.

This book does a lot of things very well: impart empathy onto the reader, tell the story of someone who endured incredible loss with incredible bravery, and allow the reader to step inside someone else's shoes and consider what they would've done in their situation. Though the prose is a tiny bit clunky, the plot is so astounding that I still tore through this book in less than a week.

I'm halfway through this book. It is from the point of view of a young girl and then the same girl as a young woman. It shows so clearly that her family as so many others just wanted to make a living and buy food and take care of their families. But the government totally annihilated everything. The government brought tanks and started to demolish building that people were still living in. This family did not want to leave Syria but if they stayed they were afraid that they would be killed or worse. It is heartbreaking but told in a way that is very easy to read. I'm learning a lot from this book. About how this never ending war started and why it continues and how all the refugees would love nothing more than to go home but it's all been destroyed. At least their home towns have been destroyed. I'm at the point in the book where the heroine is just getting on the boat to try and get to Europe. Very nervous about this.

Highly recommend. Doaa's story is wonderfully told in a way that will keep you turning pages while gaining a better understanding of what was really going on in Syria to lead to such a refugee crisis. Buy this book, read it, then pass it on to a friend.

This is one of the most powerful stories I have ever read. This is the story of a refugee that we don’t hear and that we need to hear. Doaa Al Zamel’s courage and strength are enough to inspire us all and give us a context in which to place the debate about refugees and compassion.The writing is a bit awkward at times, but Doaa’s story more than makes up for that. I am grateful that she had the courage to share it with the world and that Fleming understood that we needed to hear it.

Over the pass five years I have been trying to get a really good grasp on SEO. I have read a number of books on the subject at the same time as taking courses so I had a basic understanding of what needed to be done. So I really was looking for a book that filled in the blanks on the missing pieces along with bringing me up to date on the latest changes. This book has given me just what I needed. It is written in a down to earth matter for those of us who did not grow up with technology and gives a step by step plan on how to get to the top of the search engine results. I strongly recommend it for both the website owner who wants to do his/her own SEO along with those who want to perfect their skills like I did.

I did not know until I started reading this book, how very little I actually knew about the inner workings of SEO and how much is involved in getting to the top of Google. This is a great book for those who want to know more as well as a great do it yourself manual.

I've only gone about 35% of the way after downloading this late last night, but I felt compelled to write a review this morning. Even if I had been charged for this book, I would still give it five stars. As a beginner, it makes the process of SEO very easy to understand and I must say a great deal of it makes perfect sense. The Author, though he says he's not an author, writes in easy language and if jargon is introduced, it is well explained.Ok, I take someone's point here, there are a few weblinks peppered in there, but hey, you got it for free. I can't wait to try out the techniques described in this publication and though I know there is a lot of work involved, I feel sure that world domination is at hand for the small business where I work!!!

Truth be told, I've build, maintained and managed our small business's website for over 10 years now. During those years I heard and read a lot of advice on how to improve our ranking in Google search. Some of it was very basic and was valid 10 years ago, but not anymore. Some of it sounded tricky and unfair.Recently we've decided to outsource the entire remake of our website. To a small company led by a SEO specialist. He gave me a one hour 'course' on SEO, so that I could rework all of our previous blogposts that will be integrated in the new website. So as to not lose the blog content built over the years.Everything he said is confirmed by this book. And the book adds even a bit more to it.Furthermore, it works. I've tested some of the ideas, suggestions and methods on my current website and in one case (granted for a long tail search consisting of 3 words) got to occupy all of the top 4 positions on Google's first results page.For another single search term I move up from somewhere down on page 5 of the Google search results to 7th position on the first page. With only 1 single SEO optimized blog post.Now that's what I call results.So even though a lot of what is said in this book might be available for free on the web, you'll have a hard time finding it and checking out it's validity if you have to search and collect it yourself.The author deserves that you buy his book and you'll be happy once you start using his advice.

Great resource for those seeking to understand SEO. Written in a way that is accessible, easy to understand for the novice but full of helpful hints.

Hi,I read the entire book(plus bonus)in one go which took few hours.The author is selfless in revealing all the important information.Its useful to any website/blog owner (small business or not) to get new clientsor gain credibility in local /national area.Any business would be benefited by it.Author's credibility is enhanced by the information that his clients show up in first place in google results for their trade+locality combination.Though there are other seo books in this market I cannot verify this for any other author.Further I noticed that one of the reviewer's website has been showed in google results as first entry for his trade. It seems he followed author's advice step by step exactly.I am a full time web developer for past 15 years who did not have marketing knowledge before reading this book.I will exactly follow this ebook and modify my websites and add google plus,video etc accordingly.Particularly after reading the bonus ebook I see that no local biz uses google plus/video . They are not listed for any keyword combination.Possibilities are infinite. Thanks to the author .regardsvinodh

What a great book! Easy to read, great advice. Easy to implement. Steers you in the right direction. I wish I read it sooner. Before you spend your hard earned cash on SEO company. Read this book. I bout the kindle version with the free addendum for google+local. Is a bargain for what it will do for your business. I hope my competition do not read this review!
